The Pilot Career Series

The pilot career series discusses all aspects of commercial aviation. This is a non-fiction series about how to become a pilot, how to work as a pilot, and what is pilot life all about.

All the knowledge you gain from these series is factual and a lot of it is based on my own experieces working as a fight instructor, a chief flight instructor, and a corporate airline captain.

Introduction to the Pilot Career Books currently available:

Pilot Career Book 1:

Learn To Fly And Become A Pilot!

Learn To Fly And Become A Pilot! The Ultimate Guide for Determining Your Capabilities of Becoming a Professional Pilot and Getting Started with Flight Training (The Pilot Career Series Book 1) by Vesa Turpeinen is a non-fiction book on flying as a career choice and whether it’s right for one. In this book, Vesa talks from his personal experience, both as a pilot as well as a flight instructor, on what it takes to become a pilot and the inside world of flying and the advantages and disadvantages of it. The book is divided into many chapters that cover these topics such as why become a pilot, various pilot career paths and options, the downside of being a professional pilot, certificates, education, and background required, the cost of training, flight schools, and how to figure out if flying is the right career choice for one, among other things. There are many additional resources and a bio provided at the end of this book.

I enjoyed reading Learn To Fly And Become A Pilot! by Vesa Turpeinen and found it a very informative and instructive book, and yet at the same time fun to read. Vesa writes in a casual style without getting too technical about the topic. Even someone without any flying background can easily follow the subject and it would be especially useful for young students just starting out in school or college to read and understand if this is something that they would truly like to pursue as a career and if so, how to go about it. This is a great book for anyone interested in the exciting world of flying aircraft and in learning more about that lifestyle.”

Pilot Career Book 2:

What to Expect From Flight Training! When You Want to Become a Commercial Pilot

The second book of the series explains in detail what you are going to do in flight school. This book is essential reading so that you can smoothly progress through your training.

I signed up for training without knowing what to expect. This is the book I wish I had read before I ever step my foot into a flight school. Reading this book would have made my training not just easier, but also cheaper.

The purpose of this book is not to explain any technical areas in detail. Instead, it will give you an overview of the training so you can mentally prepare for it. I will explain what you are going to do in the air and in the ground; how to prepare for written exams, oral exams, and practical (flying) exams.

The book covers training for the following pilot certificates, ratings, and licenses:

  • Private Pilot License (PPL)
  • Instrument Rating (IR)
  • Commercial Pilot License (CPL)
  • Multi-engine Rating
  • Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) Certificate
  • Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) Certificate
  • Multi-engine Instructor (MEI) Certificate
  • Ground instrutor license: Basic, Instrument, and Advanced
  • Airline Transport Pilot License (ATP or ATPL)

The certificates and ratings are presented in this exact order because this normally how your flight training would progress.
